Golf Architects
Prior to the formation of the company, Harry Shapland Colt, Charles
Hugh Alison, and John Stanton Fleming Morrison, together with Dr
Alister MacKenzie had formed a partnership to promote the design
and construction of Golf Courses in the United Kingdom and Europe.
Initially Colt and MacKenzie in 1905, joined by Alison in 1906 and
Morrison in 1923.
Their activities expanded into North America in 1915 and then progressively
to Asia, Australasia and Africa.
In 1923, MacKenzie withdrew from the partnership.
In 1928, Colf formed a limited liability company.
MEMORANDUM OF ASSOCIATION OF COLT ALISON & MORRISON LTD
1. The Name of the Company is "Colt Alison & Morrison
Ltd".
2. The Registered Office of the Company will be situated in England.
3. The Objects for which the Company is established are:- 1) To
take over the business of golf architects carried on byHarry Shapland
Colt, Charles Hugh Alison, and John Stanton Fleming Morrison and
to carry on the same and (2) to carry on the trades or businesses
of designers or architects in all branches of such businesses and
to promote games, athletic sports and pastimes.
All three were appointed Directors and 1,000 x £1 shares
were issued and 100 shares each allocated to Alison and Morrison,
with all income to be shared equally. Colt remained the Managing
Director until 1945 when he retired. Colt died in 1951, and Alison
died in 1952, in which year Morrison became the Managing Director
until 1961 when he died bringing an end to the firm and an era.
Research to date shows that the Partners were responsible for the
design, construction and remodelling of some 375 Golf Courses including
MacKenzie courses after 1923.
